La historia de la humanidad se ha construido desde sus orígenes sobre la base de tensiones, conflictos, luchas, presiones, guerras, batallas, revoluciones, exigencias y un largo etcétera de circunstancias en las que casi todo ha cabido salvo la serenidad y la paz perpetua. Prácticamente todas las estructuras sociales han habilitado una tensión interior y todo régimen de poder ha encontrado agentes de resistencia y de lucha por la libertad y la igualdad. La historia de Estados Unidos está llena de este magma turbulento: miles de hombres y mujeres, desde la llegada violenta de los europeos a finales del siglo xv han
luchado para oponerse a la barbarie y el genocidio. Hoy han desaparecido con la suave brisa del tiempo o el soplo huracanado de la historia. Aún queda, sin embargo, la certeza de su fuerza, su discurso y su ejemplo.

Since its origins, the history of humankind has been built on the basis of tensions, conflicts, fights, pressures, wars, battles, revolutions, protests and a long etcetera of circumstances which allow room for almost everything except tranquillity and lasting peace. An inner tension is embedded in practically all social structures and all regimes of power are challenged by agents of resistance who fight for freedom and equality. The history of the USA is cut across by this restlessness: thousands of men and women, since the violent arrival of Europeans in the late-fifteenth century, have fought to oppose barbarism and genocide. Today they have been swept away by the soft breeze of time or the hurricanes of history. Nevertheless, the certainty of their strength, discourse and example still remains.
